The Almaden Valley Rotary Club was proud to present the Annual Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game, the Silicon Valley Youth Classic. This year was our 26th year of honoring graduating senior high school football players. The game was played on July 26, 2000 at 7:30 pm at San Jose State Spartan Stadium. Shown is last year's program.
This year's game was a big success. The South beat the North, 16 - 8. Read the Mercury News article about the game.
The Head Football COACHES have been selected. They are: Matt Weinbrock of St. Lawrence Academy for the North; and Matt Kiesle of Piedmont Hills and Mark Kaanapu of Live Oak for the South. Congratulations to the three coaches!
And congratulations to the PLAYERS. The process of selecting the players by the All Star Game coaches is complete. Letters have been sent to congratulate the selected players and to request some personal information. The information along with pictures has been received and are posted into the South and North Rosters.
The BANQUET occurred on Monday, May 8th at 5:30 pm at the Three Flames Restaurant. The speakers were John Ralston of San Jose State and Jeff Garcia of the SF 49ers. Players, you were given a handout at the banquet requesting additional information on your family, interests and future plans. This information could be very helpful to the media if they wanted to feature you in future articles.
We need help! We need SPONSORS. The desire is to find one or a few large sponsors along with the many other sponsors that we have been blessed with in the past that have made this game possible. Their participation has allowed us to donate to many charities over the past years.
One of the primary charities is ALS. Charlie Wedemeyer has been an inspirational representative and has been a part of the Santa Clara County All-Star Football since 1989..... Read all about his story.
